The Sterling Sapphire 2 in detail
Car-boot portability with a long day's range. Sunrise Medical built the Sterling Sapphire 2 for people who take their scooter out in the car and then want to stay out. Top speed is 4 mph, and it comes apart in four sections with no leads to unplug first.

Taking it apart
Lift the seat off, take the batteries out, then raise the Sterling lock handle at the back and the two halves part company. The tiller folds flat and the basket secures beneath it, so everything packs down tidily. It goes back together by the same steps in reverse. Staff in our showrooms will walk you through the routine until it feels natural.
Comfort at the handlebars
The delta handlebar wraps round in a loop, so your wrists can rest on it as you drive and nothing is a stretch to reach. Your 12-month warranty is looked after by ScootaMart's own engineers.

Questions people ask us in the shop
Will it fit in my car?
Bring the car to any showroom and we will try it in the boot with you. We take it apart or fold it together, so you can see how it goes in and feel what each piece weighs before you decide.
Do I need a licence, tax or insurance?
No. A 4 mph pavement scooter needs no licence, no tax and no registration. Insurance is not a legal requirement, but we strongly recommend it.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes. Just walk in to any of our 9 North West showrooms, or call first and we will have this model ready for you. If you cannot get to us and you live in the North West, we will bring it to your home for a free demonstration.
What happens if it breaks down?
It comes with a 12-month warranty, looked after by our own engineers. For a warranty repair we collect it and bring it back free of charge across mainland UK. After that, we service and repair at any showroom or at your home.
Can I part exchange my old one?
Yes. Bring your old scooter or powerchair to any showroom and we will value it there and then, with up to £400 off your new one. We can also give a price by phone, confirmed when we see it.
Do I have to pay VAT?
Not if the person it is for has a long-term illness or disability and it is for their own personal use. The price shown already has VAT relief applied. You confirm that you qualify once, with a short declaration in your cart. There is nothing to send to HMRC.
Can I get it on the Motability Scheme?
Yes, this model is available through the Scheme. If you receive a qualifying mobility allowance you can use it to lease this instead of buying, with insurance, servicing and breakdown cover included. Sign up in any showroom or call us.
How will it be delivered?
Most people choose engineer delivery for £79: it arrives inspected and assembled, with a full demonstration, and we take the packaging away. Free courier delivery to the kerbside is also available.
