Advice from the showroom floor
Will the Midi XLS suit you?
The Midi XLS is a mid-size road scooter, big enough for the open road yet compact enough for busy pavements, helped by a tight turning circle. Its broad tiller gives some shelter from the weather. Oil-damped suspension all round and a cushioned captain seat keep longer trips comfortable. Its weight limit is 25 stone, and a full charge lasts up to 25 miles. It is kept whole, ideally in a garage or shed.
As an 8 mph scooter it is road legal. We handle the DVLA paperwork when you buy. Call ahead so the model is ready to try.

The Midi XLS in detail
Road speed in a size that still suits the town centre. Kymco's Midi XLS does 8 mph, manages up to 25 miles (40 km) per charge and takes riders of 25 stone (159 kg), with a distinctive wide tiller that sets it apart.
What you get
- Wide tiller that keeps some of the wind and rain off you
- Oil-damped suspension on all wheels
- Very tight turning circle for narrow spaces
- Adjustable captain seat with a supportive cushion
- Front headlight, plus mirrors to see behind
- Two 50 Ah batteries
Comfort at full speed
At 8 mph you notice every ripple in the road, which is where the oil-damped suspension earns its keep. The seat cushion spreads your weight, so an hour on board does not leave you stiff.

Faster than 4 mph
Using the Midi XLS on the road
Anything that goes above 4 mph is a class 3 vehicle. You do not need a driving licence, and there is no vehicle tax to pay. The rules are short:
- It must be registered with the DVLA. Registration is free, and we complete it for you when you buy.
- You must be 14 or over to drive it.
- Keep to 4 mph on pavements and in pedestrian areas. The higher speed is for the road only.
- Not on motorways, in bus lanes or in cycle lanes, and avoid dual carriageways with a limit over 50 mph.
- Insurance is not a legal requirement, but it is strongly recommended.

Questions people ask us in the shop
Do I need a licence, tax or insurance?
No driving licence and no vehicle tax. Because it goes faster than 4 mph it must be registered with the DVLA, which is free, and we complete that for you when you buy. Insurance is not a legal requirement, but we strongly recommend it.
Can I try it before I buy?
Yes. Just walk in to any of our 9 North West showrooms, or call first and we will have this model ready for you. If you cannot get to us and you live in the North West, we will bring it to your home for a free demonstration.
What happens if it breaks down?
It comes with a 12-month warranty, looked after by our own engineers. For a warranty repair we collect it and bring it back free of charge across mainland UK. After that, we service and repair at any showroom or at your home.
Can I part exchange my old one?
Yes. Bring your old scooter or powerchair to any showroom and we will value it there and then, with up to £400 off your new one. We can also give a price by phone, confirmed when we see it.
Do I have to pay VAT?
Not if the person it is for has a long-term illness or disability and it is for their own personal use. The price shown already has VAT relief applied. You confirm that you qualify once, with a short declaration in your cart. There is nothing to send to HMRC.
Can I get it on the Motability Scheme?
Yes, this model is available through the Scheme. If you receive a qualifying mobility allowance you can use it to lease this instead of buying, with insurance, servicing and breakdown cover included. Sign up in any showroom or call us.
How will it be delivered?
Most people choose engineer delivery for £79: it arrives inspected and assembled, with a full demonstration, and we take the packaging away. Free courier delivery to the kerbside is also available.
